We scan the part and give you a closed mesh. If you need a drawing or a STEP model, we make it through reverse engineering.

  • Exactly 2 faces must meet at every edge of the mesh, otherwise the mesh has holes.

We compare the scan with your CAD model and show where the size of the part deviates. The reference can also be a 2D drawing (PDF, DXF or DWG); the tolerance from the drawing is confirmed in the quote.

  • The measurement uncertainty should be at most 0.1 of the tolerance.
  • The instrument resolution should be at most 0.1 of the part tolerance.
  • A part conforms only if the measured value is farther from the tolerance limit than the measurement uncertainty.
  • Under ISO 1, dimensions refer to a reference temperature of 20 °C.

We keep the shape of the object as a digital model from which a copy can be made later.

  • The mesh must have no self-intersecting triangles.
  • The mesh must have no inverted normals.
  • For 3D printing, the chord deviation in the STL file should be at most 0.1 mm.

We accept: JPG, JPEG, PNG, WEBP, HEIC, STL, OBJ, PLY, STEP (.step, .stp), PDF, DXF, DWG, ZIP. Up to 10 files, each up to 50 MB.

How it works

  1. You describe the object or photograph it

    Upload a file or take 10 photos with the guide (photogrammetry). Put a bank card next to the part: it gives the scale.

  2. Check

    The request checks the sharpness and lighting of each photo. If you mark the four corners of the card, it works out the scale; you enter the size of the object yourself.

  3. A quote within 2 working days

    We review the request and send you a price and a lead time.

  4. Scanning

    We scan the object ourselves once you confirm the quote.

  5. Files and the object back

    You get STL, OBJ with texture, or STEP through reverse engineering. The object comes back the way you chose.

How much does 3D scanning cost?

The price depends on the object size, the detail you need, the accuracy and the files you want. That is why we state no single price: describe the object or upload photos with the guide and get a quote within 2 working days. We scan it ourselves, and the quote shows what the price includes.

Can I use my phone as a 3D scanner?

A phone is fine for the photos in the request: photogrammetry from 10 sides with our guide, and a bank card of 85.6 x 54 mm next to the part gives the scale. That is enough for a quote. For exact dimensions you need scanning with our Thor3D Calibry 3D scanner, not only photos.

What is 3D scanning used for?

3D scanning turns a real object into a digital model. It is used to copy a part when you have no drawing, for measuring and checking against a drawing or CAD, and for archives, art and museum objects. You can order 3D printing from the model. We settle the scanning in a quote within 2 working days.

How accurate is 3D scanning?

Accuracy depends on the object and the method: the best accuracy on the market is between 0.014 and 0.05 mm. We settle the realistic accuracy for your part in a quote within 2 working days; state your tolerance if you know it. We do not promise a value before we see the object.

What size of object can be scanned?

Size decides how an object is scanned: small parts are held in one hand, medium ones are machine parts and household items, and large ones are often scanned on site. State the size in mm and whether it can be moved, and in a quote within 2 working days we will say how we scan it.

What files do I get after 3D scanning?

You get STL for 3D printing, STEP through reverse engineering if you need a drawing, OBJ with texture for visualization and a deviation map for inspection. You choose the files in the request, and the quote arrives within 2 working days. You do not need to know the format in advance.

Can a shiny or dark part be scanned?

Shiny, dark and transparent surfaces reflect or absorb light and are harder to scan. That is why the request asks whether the part is shiny. Say so in the description and add 10 photos, and in a quote within 2 working days we will tell you what is possible for your material.

Can I send the part from Sofia?

Yes. You can bring the object to Plovdiv, send it to us by courier and back from Sofia or any other city in Bulgaria, or invite us on site, by quote. You choose how to hand it over in the request, and the quote within 2 working days says what that needs.

How long does 3D scanning take?

Our quote arrives within 2 working days. The time for the scanning itself depends on the size, the number of objects and the file processing. On the market turnaround is 1 to 10 working days. We settle the real time for your object in the quote, before you decide.

What if I do not know what I need?

Describe the object in your own words or upload 10 photos: what it is for and what you want. If you do not know whether you need scanning, reverse engineering or 3D design, we will guide you in a quote within 2 working days. You need not choose a method or file format in advance.
