The LNL3D D5 is an FDM 3D printer from LNL3D with a 500 x 500 x 600 mm build volume.

Specifications

The LNL3D D5 (closely related to the Tenlog TL-D5 platform) is an industrial-scale, large-format FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) 3D printer. Its most defining characteristic is the Independent Dual Extrusion (IDEX) technology. This system separates it from traditional single-extruder or multi-in-single-out extrusion designs, offering distinct physical and kinematic advantages.

  • Hotend (Hotend): The printer is equipped with two independent direct-drive extruders, utilizing a BMG-style dual-gear reduction system for high-torque filament grip and control. The stock hotends are PTFE-lined, restricting their maximum safe continuous operating temperature to approximately 250°C - 260°C.

Calibration

Configuring and calibrating an IDEX printer with such a large print volume requires precision. Follow these steps for successful calibration:

  • Mechanical Z-Alignment of the Dual Nozzles:

Before adjusting any software parameters, you must ensure both nozzles are mechanically at the exact same height relative to the build plate. First, level the bed relative to Extruder 0 (T0).

Common defects

  • Hardware defects and mechanical weaknesses
  • Loosening of the Heatbreak Throat:
  • Symptoms: Extrusion inconsistency, plastic leaks between the nozzle and the heater block, or one nozzle dropping below the other.
  • Cause: The frequent heating and cooling cycles cause thermal expansion and contraction, loosening the threads of the throat inside the heatsink.

What it is used for

Best use-cases:

  • Batch Production (Duplication Mode): Printing two identical parts simultaneously. This effectively doubles output capacity, making it excellent for low-volume production.
  • Complex Geometries with Soluble Support: IDEX printing enables the use of soluble support (like PVA/BVOH) for complex internal cavities or overhangs, leaving clean surfaces on the main model.
