The Koonovo KN3 Idex is an FDM 3D printer from Koonovo with a 300 x 300 x 350 mm build volume.

Specifications

The Koonovo KN3 Idex is a specialized FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) 3D printer featuring an Independent Dual Extruder (IDEX) motion system. IDEX technology represents a major upgrade over traditional dual-extrusion systems (such as dual nozzles on a single carriage), as it isolates the inactive hotend to prevent dragging, scraping, and plastic oozing onto the printed part. The KN3 model is designed for advanced hobbyists, prototyping labs, and small-batch production shops that require multi-material capabilities or high manufacturing throughput.

  • Technology: FDM/FFF (Fused Filament Fabrication) with 1.75 mm filament pathway compatibility.
  • Build Volume: 300 × 300 × 350 mm.

Calibration

IDEX configurations require more precise setup than standard single-nozzle machines. Follow these 8 steps to calibrate the Koonovo KN3 Idex:

  • Mechanical Z-Alignment of the Secondary Nozzle:

Because both toolheads slide on a single X-axis rail, the bed must be parallel to the rail, and the nozzles must sit at the same physical height.

Procedure: Heat both nozzles to 200°C and the bed to 60°C. Level the bed relative to Tool 0 (left).

Common defects

  • Hardware defects and mechanical weaknesses
  • Toolhead Collisions: If the G-code contains errors or if the tool change parameters are misconfigured, the carriages can collide at high speed in the middle of the X-axis, causing belt slippage and layer shifts. Solution: Test new slicer profiles at low speeds and verify parking coordinates in the configuration.

What it is used for

Suitable Materials and Applications:

  • Small-Batch Manufacturing (Duplication Mode): Doubles production throughput by printing two identical parts simultaneously.
  • Complex Enclosed Geometries (Soluble Support): Printing intricate designs with internal cavities using PLA and water-soluble PVA supports.
