Technology and Light Engine

The B9 Core 550 uses DLP (Digital Light Processing) photopolymer technology: a DMD-chip-based projector emits 405 nm UV light, curing an entire cross-section in a single flash rather than scanning point-by-point as in laser SLA. Layer time is therefore constant regardless of part count in the build.

Optics and Resolution

50 µm XY pixel pitch across a 96 × 54 mm build area. This is well-suited to fine jewellery details and dental constructions: reliably reproducing features down to ~0.1 mm with correct part orientation.

Calibration

Calibrating the B9 Core 550

• Build platform leveling: Loosen the locking screws, lower the platform to the zero position, and mechanically level against the FEP vat. Expect uniform contact across the full area. Tip: calibrate at room temperature with resin already poured: warm resin slightly raises the vat level.
• Bottom exposure time: Set the base layers (typically 4–6) to 3–4× the normal exposure duration. Expect solid adhesion without delamination on first lift.

Common defects

Common Defects on the B9 Core 550

Suction-cup separation (slipping/delamination): Closed flat cavities below the bottom surface retain negative pressure during platform lift, causing parts to separate or deform. Fix: add 2–3 drainage holes (≥2 mm) in horizontal surfaces; reduce lift speed to <2 mm/s for large flat areas.

Undercure: Soft, rubbery walls or collapse of thin ribs after printing. Cause: insufficient UV dose (cloudy optics, depleted LED, exposure too short).
