The WEEDO X40 V3+ is an FDM 3D printer from WEEDO with a 300 x 300 x 400 mm build volume.

Specifications

The WEEDO X40 V3+ is a prominent representative of budget-oriented FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) 3D printers utilizing an Independent Dual Extruder (IDEX) kinematics system. While this design significantly broadens the horizons of multi-material and batch manufacturing, it introduces complex mechanical and electrical variables that must be managed with care.

  • Build Volume: In standard single-extruder mode, the build area is 300 x 300 x 400 mm. However, when independent printing modes are enabled, physical constraints apply to the X-axis:
  • Duplication Mode: The X-axis is split in half, allowing two identical objects to be printed simultaneously.

Calibration

IDEX printing demands a strict calibration routine. A minor misalignment of even 0.05 mm between the nozzles will result in poor multi-material bonding or cause the non-active nozzle to scrape and ruin the print.

  • Thermal Expansion Stabilization

Before starting any calibration steps, the bed and nozzles must be preheated to their normal operating temperatures (e.g., 60°C for the bed and 200°C for the nozzles) and kept at temperature for at least 10 minutes.

Common defects

  • Hardware defects and mechanical weaknesses
  • Ribbon Cable Failures:
  • Symptoms: Sudden loss of hotend heating, heater errors, "MINTEMP" or "MAXTEMP" triggered, or fans shutting down.
  • Cause: The large flat ribbon cables connecting the tool heads to the mainboard undergo constant bending under sharp angles. The lack of robust cable drag chains leads to copper fatigue and broken traces.
  • Solution: Replace the damaged ribbon cable.

What it is used for

Best use-cases

  • Complex Geometries with Soluble Support Material:
  • Why: IDEX is ideal for printing PLA with PVA support, or ABS with HIPS. Because the inactive nozzle is parked completely off-bed, there is zero risk of color or material contamination, unlike single-nozzle multi-material systems (e.g., Bambu AMS).
