Extruder and Hotend Assembly

The Wanhao Duplicator i3 Mini features a single Bowden extruder setup, which pushes 1.75 mm filament through a standard PTFE guide tube to an MK10-style hotend. The hotend relies on a brass nozzle with a 0.4 mm orifice diameter and an M7 thread. Inside the hotend thermal barrier (heatbreak), a PTFE liner extends directly into the nozzle body. While this configuration successfully prevents filament jams at lower melting points, it limits the continuous safe operational temperature to 240°C.

Calibration

To ensure reliable, consistent prints with the Wanhao Duplicator i3 Mini, perform the following technical calibration procedures:

• Manual Bed Leveling Protocol:

Because this machine lacks an automated leveling sensor, manual leveling is essential. Preheat the nozzle to 200°C to melt away any hardened plastic, and disable the stepper motors. Slide a standard 0.1 mm sheet of paper between the nozzle and the bed.

Common defects

• Hardware defects and mechanical weaknesses
• Asymmetrical X-Axis Gantry Sag:
• Symptoms: Persistent bed leveling errors on the right side of the bed. First-layer lines are squished on the left but fail to adhere on the right.
• Cause: The single Z-axis drive screw on the left leaves the right side of the X-axis arm cantilevered, allowing gravity and bearing wear to tilt the arm downwards.
• Solution: Lubricate Z-axis linear rails regularly.
