Specifications

The Vivedino T-REX 2+ (often branded under the Formbot T-Rex 2+ label) is a large-format FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) 3D printer designed for industrial prototyping, design engineers, and makers who require a substantial build envelope combined with multi-material capability. Characterized by its heavy steel construction, industrial motion components, and independent extrusion architecture, this machine is built to provide reliable extrusion over a large workspace.

Kinematics and Motion System (IDEX Cartesian Geometry)

The Vivedino T-REX 2+ utilizes a Cartesian layout configured with an Independent Dual Extruder (IDEX) system.

Calibration

Using the IDEX system on the Vivedino T-REX 2+ requires calibrating the mechanical and software alignments of both print heads.

  • Mechanical Z-Offset Equalization

To prevent the inactive nozzle from scraping the active print path, both nozzle tips must sit at the exact same Z-height relative to the bed.

  • Expected result: Both T0 and T1 nozzles touch the bed surface at the exact same Z coordinate height.
  • Tip: Heat the bed to 60 °C and the nozzles to 150 °C.

Common defects

  • Hardware defects and mechanical weaknesses
  • Aluminum Bed Thermal Warping: Due to its 400x400 mm dimensions, the bed plate can bow in the center (up to 0.3 mm) when heated above 90 °C for printing ABS. While the BLTouch offsets this in the software, the dimensional accuracy of the bottom layer is reduced. Solution: Install a high-precision milled aluminum tool plate (such as MIC6 grade) or use a thick glass mirror over the bed.

What it is used for

Best use-cases

  • Large Functional Prototypes (PLA/PETG): Ideal for printing large structural components, housings, and architectural mockups in one piece.
  • Batch Production (Duplicate Mode): Enables production farms to print two identical parts simultaneously, doubling output.
