Stratasys Origin One

The Stratasys Origin One is a DLP 3D printer from Stratasys with a 192 x 108 x 370 mm build volume.

Light Engine (P3 DLP)

Origin One uses P3 (Programmable PhotoPolymerization): a bottom-up DLP projector with real-time control of UV dose, chamber temperature, and FEP-vat release force. Pixel size: ~50 µm; surface roughness Ra <2 µm.

Optics

DLP array with per-pixel brightness calibration for uniform UV dose across the full XY. No galvanometer scanner: the entire field is exposed simultaneously.

Platform

Precision Z-motor build platform with FEP-release vat peel-force monitoring. Documented accuracy ±50 µm.

Chamber

Closed active chamber with PID temperature control (up to 60 °C): critical for viscous HDT resins.

Calibration

P3 Light Engine Verification

Built-in diagnostics check UV uniformity: deviation >3% requires service intervention. Permanent spots require light module replacement.

Chamber Temperature

Allow 10–15 min for thermal stabilisation before starting. Tolerance ±1 °C versus material profile.

Build Platform Levelling

Manual Z-zero procedure with Origin tool; tolerance ±0.025 mm. Mandatory after every vat change.

Common defects

Suction Cupping

On wide flat cross-sections without drainage holes. Fix: add minimum 1.5 mm drainage holes, apply anti-suction support strategy.

Unprintable Thin Walls (<0.4 mm)

At low UV dose or with a fouled FEP. Fix: increase dose, inspect/replace FEP.

Warping on Flat Thin Parts

Asymmetric cooling after post-cure. Fix: add stiffening ribs, slow cooling, optimised supports.
