Light Engine (DLS)
Carbon Digital Light Synthesis uses a 385/405 nm UV DLP projector with a true 4K light engine (upgraded from M2). An oxygen-permeable window (PDMS/FPU) creates a 'Dead Zone', a thin layer of uncured resin between the window and the polymerizing zone, eliminating the Z-pause characteristic of standard SLA/MSLA.
Optics / Projector
75 µm pixel pitch with full 4K light engine; fixed projector (not galvo-scan). Uniform intensity across the full projection field: critical for production repeatability.
Platform
Linear Z-axis with precision encoder feedback. Build platform 189×118 mm, continuously driven upward.
Window
Clean before each production run using Carbon-approved cleaning agent. Do not use IPA directly: it degrades PDMS. Visually inspect for scratches and hazing.
Resin Cartridge and Temperature
Resin must be 18–28°C. In cold storage environments, warm the cartridge for 30 min. before installing. Do not shake the cartridge.
Build Platform
Clean after every print; Carbon Connect automatically monitors Z-offset; run factory calibration for new platforms.
Post-Cure.
Island Delamination / Falling Parts
Insufficient adhesion or aged resin. Clean platform, replace cartridge, reduce packed volume per build.
Window Degradation
Hazing of PDMS/FPU window after intensive use or reactive resins. Replace window via Carbon Field Service or user-replaceable kit.
Warping of Thin Panels
Internal DLS stresses. Tilt 15–30° + additional supports. Follow Carbon Design Guidelines (wall ≥ 1.5 mm).
Surface Stair-Stepping
Physical limit at 75 µm pixel.
Dental
CE-validated DCR/DPR resins; 2.5× throughput vs M2; 48 dental arches per run is a standard benchmark for production labs.
Sports Equipment (Lattice)
EPU 41 for custom-tuned energy-absorbing structures in helmets and midsoles: proven with Riddell/NFL and Adidas.
Medical Devices
Biocompatible resins + Six Sigma repeatability = regulatory basis for FDA/CE-cleared parts.
