SprintRay MoonRay D75: Technical Specifications

Technology and Light Engine

MoonRay D75 is a DLP photopolymer 3D printer with a Texas Instruments DMD chip and SprintRay's patented RayOne UV projector. Operating at 405 nm (blue-violet LED), the light source is rated at 50,000 hours: exceptionally long for a desktop DLP printer. The entire layer is exposed simultaneously, yielding constant layer time regardless of part count.

Optics and Resolution

75 µm XY pixel pitch: finer than the MoonRay S (100 µm). With correct part orientation, achieves dimensional accuracy ≤50 µm: required for clinically acceptable crown and bridge marginal fit.

Calibration

Calibrating the SprintRay MoonRay D75

  • Build platform leveling: Lower to Z-zero, loosen mounting screws, level to full parallelism with FEP. Tip: at 75 µm pixel even a 0.1 mm tilt causes asymmetric marginal error: use a 0.05 mm metal feeler gauge.
  • Bottom exposure (dental materials): 5–8 base layers at 3–5× normal exposure. Expect stable adhesion. Tip: use SprintRay Cloud validated profiles for specific biocompatible resins.

Common defects

Common Defects on the SprintRay MoonRay D75

Marginal error on crowns: Margin is wider or narrower than designed. Cause: horizontal orientation of the margin relative to Z-layers. Fix: orient marginal ridge vertically; verify layer thickness (25–50 µm for crowns).

Support fracture: Supports break during removal, leaving marks on the margin. Cause: contact tip diameter too thin (<0.4 mm). Fix: increase to ≥0.5 mm diameter; reduce support tilt angle.

What it is used for

Use Cases and Anti-Cases for the SprintRay MoonRay D75

Ideal applications:

  • Crowns and bridges: 75 µm XY gives marginal accuracy ≤50 µm; suitable for temporary and diagnostic constructions with correct orientation.
  • Surgical implant guides: RayOne ensures stable light dose; 4–6 guides per build.
