Sovol SV04 Single Mode 01

The Sovol SV04 Single Mode 01 is an FDM 3D printer from Sovol with a 300 x 300 x 400 mm build volume.

Specifications

When configured in "Single Mode 01," the Sovol SV04 operates as a standard single-extruder direct-drive FDM 3D printer using only the left toolhead carriage (Tool 0 / Extruder 1). In this operating mode, the secondary right carriage (Tool 1 / Extruder 2) remains parked at the extreme right end of the X-axis rail, clearing the entire build plate width for printing. Single mode is highly stable and mechanically simplified compared to dual-extrusion configurations, as it eliminates Z-height discrepancies and tool-change alignment complexities.

• Extruder and Hotend: The active left extruder is a direct-drive unit using a Titan-style 3:1 reduction gear setup.

Calibration

Calibrating the Sovol SV04 for Single Mode 01 is simpler than for IDEX modes, but requires specific mechanical and software steps:

• Z-Axis Lead Screw Synchronization: With the printer powered off, manually rotate the Z lead screws to ensure that both left and right sides of the X-axis gantry are at the exact same height relative to the upper frame.
• Expected result: A level X-axis gantry, minimizing mechanical skewing.

• Hardware defects and mechanical weaknesses
• Y-Axis Bed Sagging under Load: The large 300x300 mm aluminum bed is mounted on a relatively thin Y-carriage plate. Under rapid acceleration, the bed can wobble or sag, leading to uneven layers on large prints.
• Solution: Replace the stock silicone leveling spacers with stiff steel springs or hard mounts. Limit Y-axis acceleration in the slicer to 800 mm/s².
