Specifications

Based on official Sovol documentation, IDEX hardware reviews, and mechanical analysis, here are the verified technical specifications for the Sovol SV04 operating in Copy / Mirror Mode:

  • Hotend: The printer uses an Independent Dual Extruder (IDEX) layout. Two separate toolheads reside on the same X-axis rail, driven by individual belts and stepper motors. Each toolhead is equipped with a direct-drive "Titan" style extruder clone with a 3:1 gear reduction ratio, providing high extrusion force and immediate filament control. The hotends are all-metal, featuring titanium alloy heat breaks that allow operating temperatures up to 300°C.

Calibration

Copy Mode on an IDEX printer requires perfect mechanical alignment between both toolheads. Because the X1 and X2 carriages move in lockstep, any physical Z-height discrepancy or XY offset on the second carriage will ruin the copy print. Follow this eight-step engineering cookbook:

  • Bed Cleaning and Auto-Leveling (ABL Mesh):
  • Procedure: Clean the PC magnetic spring steel plate with IPA. Heat the bed to 60°C and wait 5 minutes. Run the auto-bed leveling sequence.

Common defects

  • Hardware defects and mechanical weaknesses
  • X-Gantry Sag under Dual Toolhead Load: The two Titan extruders, stepper motors, and heavy wiring harnesses exert significant weight on the X-axis profile. When both carriages move toward the center of the X-axis, the aluminum extrusion can bow slightly. This causes the nozzle clearance to decrease in the middle of the bed. Using silicon bed mounts and relying on a preheated bed leveling mesh helps mitigate this sag.

What it is used for

Best use-cases:

  • Small-Batch Manufacturing: Effectively doubles production capacity for printing brackets, enclosures, and small mechanical components, cutting lead times in half.
  • Symmetrical Part Printing (Mirror Mode): Ideal for printing left-hand and right-hand mirror parts (like car trim panels, custom brackets, or prosthetic components) simultaneously without mirror-process.
