The Snapmaker 2 A150 is an FDM 3D printer from Snapmaker with a 398 x 438 x 411 mm build volume.

Specifications

The Snapmaker 2 A150 is a modular 3-in-1 machine that combines the functions of a 3D printer (FDM), a laser engraver/cutter, and a light-duty CNC carver. Distinguishing itself from traditional 3D printers, the Snapmaker uses closed metal linear modules with internal lead screws for motion control, providing high rigidity at the expense of maximum print speed.

  • Kinematics: Cartesian coordinate system. All three axes (X, Y, Z) are driven by proprietary enclosed linear modules. Each module contains a stainless steel lead screw and linear guide rails encased in an aluminum alloy housing. The Z-axis is configured with a single vertical linear module.

Calibration

Tuning the Snapmaker 2 A150 requires a systematic calibration process to compensate for lead screw inertia and module alignment:

  • Build Sheet Preparation:

Any oil or grease residue from hands on the PEI surface will degrade print adhesion and affect the inductive sensor's repeatability. Clean the bed surface thoroughly using 99% Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) and a lint-free micro-fiber cloth.

  • Expected result: A pristine print surface, ensuring maximum first-layer adhesion.

Common defects

The Snapmaker 2 A150 has several mechanical and software issues related to its multi-tool design.

  • Hardware defects and mechanical weaknesses
  • Lead Screw Backlash:

Because the X and Y axes use standard lead screws rather than ball screws or belts, wear on the internal brass nuts over time introduces mechanical backlash. This causes circles to print as ovals and reduces dimensional accuracy.

What it is used for

Recommended applications

  • All-in-One Prototyping:

Ideal for home workshops, makerspaces, or classrooms where space is limited and FDM 3D printing, laser engraving, and CNC carving are needed on a single platform.
