ProtoFab SLA600

The ProtoFab SLA600 is an SLA 3D printer from ProtoFab with a 600 x 600 x 400 mm build volume.

Specifications

Laser and Optics: 355 nm UV laser (Nd:YVO4 type, ~300–500 mW typical for the class) with German ScanLab galvanometer scanners: the industry standard for repeatability. DLS (Dynamic Laser Scanning) control switches between a fine contour spot (~0.08 mm) and higher-power fill mode within a single layer pass.

Scanner and Accuracy: Galvanometric scanning up to 15 m/s; accuracy ±0.1 mm (L ≤ 100 mm), ±0.1%×L for longer spans; repeatability ±0.01 mm. Surface roughness Ra < 0.05 µm: among the best in class for industrial SLA.

Platform: Granite/marble base for vibration isolation; precision Z-axis ball-screw; build volume 600×600×400 mm. Layer thickness 0.05–0.15 mm.

Calibration

Laser Spot: Verify focal diameter (≤0.08 mm) across a 9-point grid before any production run: ScanLab diagnostic mode.

Z=0 Levelling: Platform must be parallel to the vat within ±0.02 mm; use Build Software AutoLevel script. Repeat after every vat change.

DLS Power Profile: Material-specific DLS profile: separate settings for contour spot and fill power; re-verify when switching resin batches.

Common defects

Layer Delamination: Insufficient cure depth (DLS profile) or cold resin (<22°C). Fix: increase cure depth +10–15%, warm resin.

Undercure (brittle parts): Laser power dropped below nominal: measure with power meter; if drop >15%, schedule service.

Warping of Flat Geometries: Internal stress in wide horizontal sections. Add support points; reduce layer to 0.05 mm; post-cure.

Automotive Prototyping: 600×600 mm build area accommodates full panels and bumpers in one build at ±0.1 mm accuracy.

Master Models for Casting: Ra < 0.05 µm reduces manual polishing; castable resins available from the open material ecosystem.
