Laser and Optics

The ProtoFab SLA300 uses a 355 nm UV laser with a ScanLab (Germany) galvanometric scanner: the same precision standard used across UnionTech, Kings, and ProtoFab's larger models. The key differentiator is DLS (Dynamic Laser Scanning): dynamic laser power modulation based on scan speed and cross-section geometry, delivering 2–5× faster build speeds than conventional industrial SLA without sacrificing accuracy.

Platform

Compact cubic build volume 300 × 300 × 300 mm. ProtoFab uses granite bases in larger models of the series.

Surface Quality.

Calibration

Platform levelling: planarity ≤0.03 mm; at Ra < 0.05 µm target, even minor levelling error is visible on the first layer surface.

DLS calibration: dynamic power must be profiled per resin and speed mode; incorrect calibration eliminates the speed advantage.

ScanLab optical verification: 50×50 mm test grid; requires 30-minute warm-up before measurement.

Jacob Working Curve: Cd/Ec profiling separately for ABS-like and castable resins.

Common defects

Reduced smoothness (Ra > 0.1 µm): cause: scratched vat + incorrect DLS + resin overheating; fix: replace vat + recalibrate + check resin temperature.

Platform adhesion failure: cause: DLS fast mode reduces base exposure; fix: more base layers + longer base exposure time.

Warping in castable resins: cause: higher internal stress coefficient; fix: reduce DLS speed 15% + tilt 10–15°.

What it is used for

Dental laboratories: Ra < 0.05 µm and ±0.05 mm cover crowns, bridges, surgical guides, and wax patterns.

Jewellery studios: exceptional surface smoothness minimises post-processing for investment casting wax patterns.
