Technology and light engine

The Form 4B uses the identical LFD (Low Force Display) MSLA engine as the Form 4-60 uniform-wavelength LEDs with a plano-convex lens array. The difference lies entirely in the material library and dental certifications.

Optics and resolution

50 µm XY pixel with sub-pixel anti-aliasing support for smooth marginal lines on dental constructions. Minimum layer 25 µm; maximum 300 µm.

Platform and speed

Build volume 200 × 125 × 210 mm. Speed up to 100 mm/h in Z; 2–5× faster than Form 3B+ depending on material and geometry.

Calibration

Calibration: Formlabs Form 4B

• Automatic leveling: performed at every start-up; for dental models with a wide base, add a raft or increase bottom layers to 12 for reliable adhesion.
• Biocompatible material verification: PreForm reads the cartridge RFID chip and confirms clearance status. Verify the selected material matches the intended indication (Class I/IIa/IIb/III).

Common defects

Common Defects: Formlabs Form 4B

Stepping on marginal lines

Visible layer steps along the crown or bridge margin. Cause: suboptimal orientation relative to the pixel grid. Fix: sub-pixel anti-aliasing + X-axis orientation.

Tacky surface after post-cure (biocompatible material)

Insufficient UV dose or low temperature in Form Cure. Fix: follow the table exactly: for Surgical Guide Pro, minimum 60 min at 80 °C.

Deformation of large dental bodies.
