Specifications

Welcome, fellow engineers and industrial prototyping specialists. Today, we closely analyze the flagship of large-format dual-component printing systems – the Fused Form FF600 Doppia. Manufactured by the Colombian company Fused Form Corp (ProtoLab 3D S.A.S.), this machine is engineered specifically to tackle the twin challenges of large-scale 3D printing and complex geometries requiring soluble support structures. The "Doppia" (double) configuration features two independent extrusion pathways mounted on a single carriage, opening up new production possibilities for industrial pump impellers, architectural consoles, and complex manifold systems.

Calibration

Dual-extrusion printing at a 600mm scale requires precise geometry. If the nozzles are not perfectly aligned along the Z-axis and X/Y axes, the physical size of the printer will amplify any registration errors, leading to layer shifts and failed prints.

  • Thermal stabilization of the 8 mm bed (Heat Soak):
  • Procedure: Clean the bed with 100% pure Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA). Heat the bed to 80°C and let it sit for exactly 20 minutes before starting any calibration.

Common defects

  • Hardware defects and mechanical weaknesses
  • PVA nozzle clogging (T1): Because large prints take several days, the PVA filament sits inside the hot T1 nozzle for long periods while T0 prints. This causes the PVA to carbonize and form a hard plug. Solution: Use active standby temperature reduction in the slicer and clean the nozzle regularly using a nylon cold pull.
  • PVA moisture absorption: PVA support material is highly hygroscopic.

What it is used for

Best use-cases:

  • Hollow industrial prototypes with internal structures: Printing intake manifolds, ducts with internal baffles, and complex valve bodies.
  • Complex architectural scale models: Eliminates the risk of breaking delicate features during mechanical support removal.
  • Composite functional parts: Combining rigid Nylon-CF with flexible TPU seals.
