Specifications

Welcome, fellow engineers and industrial manufacturing specialists. Today, we closely analyze one of the true titans of large-format 3D printing in the industrial sector – the Fused Form FF600. Designed and manufactured by Fused Form Corp (ProtoLab 3D S.A.S.), this printer is built specifically to address the demanding needs of factories, foundries, and research labs that require the reliable deposition of large functional parts, sand-casting patterns, and robust structural elements. The mechanical scale of this machine demands a different approach to kinematics and thermal management, which we will now break down.

Calibration

Working with large build areas requires near-perfect bed leveling. For a print spanning 600 mm, a level discrepancy of just 0.1 mm will cause print detachment and ruin a 40-hour run. Follow these calibration steps.

  • Bed cleaning and thermal soak:
  • Procedure: Wait for the bed to cool below 30°C. Clean the glass plate using 100% pure Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) and a microfiber cloth. Heat the bed to 80°C and let it sit for 20 minutes (thermal soaking).

Common defects

  • Hardware defects and mechanical weaknesses
  • Warping on large ABS/ASA parts: Even with a closed chassis, the large volume of air inside the printer is not actively heated. If ambient room temperature is low, parts longer than 300 mm will warp, lifting the corners off the bed. Solution: Use high-performance adhesives (like Magigoo or ABS slurry) and seal the chassis panels to trap heat.

What it is used for

Best use-cases:

  • Large-scale casting patterns and molds: Ideal for printing foundry sand-casting patterns out of PLA or materials optimized for post-processing.
  • Industrial enclosures and air ducts: Prototyping large electrical enclosures, junction boxes, and automotive ducts out of ABS, ASA, or Nylon.
