Creality CR-10

The Creality CR-10 is an FDM 3D printer from Creality with a 300 x 300 x 400 mm build volume.

The Creality CR-10 is an FDM 3D printer from Creality with a 300 x 300 x 400 mm build volume.

Specifications

  • Hotend: The CR-10 uses a classic MK8 hotend in a Bowden configuration. The maximum print temperature is limited to 250°C due to the PTFE liner tube running directly through the heatbreak to touch the nozzle tip. Exceeding 240°C for extended periods leads to thermal degradation of the PTFE, releasing toxic off-gases and causing severe nozzle clogging. The heater cartridge is rated at 40W, operating on a 12V DC system.
  • Bed: The build plate consists of a removable glass sheet held by metal binder clips over an aluminum heated bed plate. The heated bed has physical dimensions of 310 x 310 mm (with a usable print volume of 300 x 300 mm).

Calibration

Follow these 8 calibration steps to get the best possible print quality out of the CR-10's mechanics:

  • X-Gantry Tramming (Compensating Z-Axis Sag):
  • Action: Because the CR-10 relies on a single Z-axis motor on the left side, the right side of the X-gantry has play and sags. Measure the distance from the bottom frame to the X-axis rail on both left and right sides. Tighten the eccentric nuts on the right-side POM wheels to eliminate play, but avoid over-tightening.

Common defects

  • Hardware defects and mechanical weaknesses
  • Symptom: Melted or burned heater bed terminal on the mainboard.
  • Cause: The factory wires are pre-tinned with solder before insertion into the screw terminals. Under high currents (15A), the solder undergoes cold flow (creeps), causing the contact to loosen. This increases resistance, heating up the terminal until it melts.

What it is used for

Best use-cases

  • Large PLA Cosmetic Models: Ideal for architectural models, statues, and cosplay armor parts where volume is key.
  • Prototype Enclosures: Perfect for printing large PLA or PETG structural housings at slow speeds.

Anti-use-cases.
