Anycubic Photon Ultra: Technical Overview
Light Source and DLP Optics
The Photon Ultra uses a DLP (Digital Light Processing) projector with a Texas Instruments DMD chip and a 405 nm LED light source. Unlike LCD/MSLA printers, the DLP projector exposes entire layers at once via precision mirror arrays, delivering high contrast (deep black) between exposed and unexposed zones: important for fine details with sharp transitions.
Resolution
The projector operates at 720p resolution with a physical pixel size of 51 µm.
Calibration: Anycubic Photon Ultra
1. Build Platform Leveling
The Photon Ultra vat has a transparent optical glass bottom (not FEP). Level the platform carefully without excessive pressure. Use a paper sheet or the Home position function. Expected result: Even contact across the full build area.
Tip: Never use a metal tool directly on the glass: scratches degrade the projected beam.
2. Bottom Exposure Test.
Common Defects, Anycubic Photon Ultra
DLP-001, Under-exposed zones at low temperature
Symptom: Surface soft zones or partially separated layers, especially at the start of a print.
Cause: Low ambient temperature increases resin viscosity; the 720p projector's low wattage (15 W) may not deliver sufficient UV dose with cold resin.
Fix: Warm resin to 25–28 °C; increase Bottom Exposure by 10–15%; maintain room above 20 °C.
DLP-002: Adhesion failure (part sticks to vat floor).
Use Cases, Anycubic Photon Ultra
Best applications:
Jewelry and dental prototypes, DLP technology delivers consistent accuracy without LCD matrix degradation (unlike 500–2000 h LCD lifetime). For dental models and jewelry casting, the projector's multi-year stability is a competitive advantage.
