Anycubic Photon D2: Technical Overview

Light Source and DLP Optics

The Photon D2 uses a DLP (Digital Light Processing) projector with a Texas Instruments DMD chip and 405 nm LED light source at full 2K resolution (2560×1440 px). The DMD micromirror array exposes each layer at once via precision reflection, delivering high contrast between exposed and unexposed zones: a characteristic advantage of DLP over LCD technology.

Resolution and Accuracy

The physical pixel size is 51 µm: identical to the Photon Ultra despite the higher 2K resolution, because the build plate is 62% larger.

Calibration

Calibration: Anycubic Photon D2

1. Build Platform Leveling

The D2 DLP design uses optical glass on the vat bottom (not FEP). Release the locking nut, place paper between the platform and vat, and lower to Home. Tighten the screws in a cross pattern. Expected result: Even first-layer adhesion across the build area.

Tip: Use a thin silicone sheet instead of paper for a more accurate contact feel without scratch risk.

2. Bottom Exposure Test.

Common defects

Common Defects, Anycubic Photon D2

DLP-D2-001, Adhesion failure (part sticks to vat floor)

Symptom: Part remains bonded to the glass vat floor instead of lifting with the build platform.

Cause: Insufficient Bottom Exposure, poor leveling, or dirty projector glass reduces UV dose at the bottom.

Fix: Check leveling; clean the glass; increase Bottom Exposure by 10–15%; apply a thin release coating (liquid release) if the problem persists.

What it is used for

Use Cases, Anycubic Photon D2

Best applications:

Dental models and surgical guides, 2K DLP with TI DMD chip delivers consistent accuracy and a long-lasting light source (20 000+ h). Dental laboratories with high volume appreciate the advantage over LCD printers (matrix replacement at ~1 500–3 000 h).
