A Bulgarian invoice generator for the self-employed: what it holds
A Bulgarian invoice generator for the self-employed is an app for people who work for themselves: freelancers, craftspeople and people on a civil contract. In it you prepare an invoice, proforma, credit note, debit note or quote as a document to look at on screen and keep them in your account.
Besides documents it has expenses by category, an annual report to print and calculators. They are estimates and do not replace an accountant. The screen is in Bulgarian only.
What the invoice generator does
Prepares an invoice, proforma or note
You choose the type, a client from the list, lines with quantity, unit and price, a total discount, a tax-event date and a due date. The form changes at once; the number and the issue date are set when you save.
Calculates VAT and totals
On the form: the lines minus the total discount, plus 20% VAT when “Регистрация по ЗДДС” (VAT registration) is ticked. Without it VAT is 0 and the form carries a reason for not charging VAT, filled in by default. The saved total is recalculated by the server (see the limits below).
Makes quotes, keeps clients and products
A quote is the same editor with a “Валидна до” (valid until) field. A client is added by hand or by VAT number from the European VIES register (a company without a VAT number is entered by hand); a private person needs no company number.
Calculates contributions and advance tax
The “Моят статут” (My status) section asks how you earn and gives a plan with deadlines. The calculators give a monthly contribution, a quarterly advance tax, net income, an hourly rate and a tax reserve.
When you need an invoice generator like this
You need an invoice generator when you work alone and nobody keeps your documents.
A freelancer with company clients
You prepare an invoice for a project or for hours and record a due date and bank details.
A craftsman or a small workshop
You prepare a quote with a “Валидна до” (valid until) date, then make an invoice with products from the catalogue.
Work on a civil contract
You record expenses by category and, in “Нето доход” (Net income), type a yearly income to see what is left after contributions and tax.
A newly self-employed person
You go through the questionnaire in “Моят статут” (My status) and get a plan of tasks and deadlines.
How the invoice, contributions and tax are calculated
The form is calculated on screen, and on saving the server calculates the total again. The calculators use the app's own rates and do not interpret the law.
VAT
On the form, with “Регистрация по ЗДДС” (VAT registration) ticked, 20% is added on the sum after the discount; without it VAT is 0. The server recalculates the saved total: see the limits.
Currency
The default currency is euro; leva and dollars are chosen in the invoice. On the dashboard leva are converted at 1.95583 per euro and dollars are left out.
Rates
Rates come from the server; with no answer the code uses a contribution of 27.8% (31.3% with sickness and maternity cover), standard expenses of 25% and a tax of 10%.
| Applies to | Formula | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Invoice total | TOTAL = Σ(qty · price) − discount + VAT | on the form: VAT = (Σ − discount) · 20%, only with VAT registration ticked |
| Net income for a year | net = income − contr. · 12 − tax | contr. is the monthly contribution; tax = (income − 25% · income − contr. · 12) · 10%, the base does not fall below 0 |
| Hourly rate | gross = (net + contr. − contr. · 10%) / (1 − 75% · 10%) | contr. is the contribution on the minimum income; hourly rate = gross / working hours |
Invoices, quotes and tax sums in one place
One login for documents, expenses and calculators
Documents, expenses and calculators share one login, so clients do not move between programs.
In euro by default, on a Bulgarian screen
The default currency is euro; leva and dollars are chosen in the invoice.
The sum is shown line by line
In the “Нето доход (годишно)” (Net income, yearly) calculator contributions, standard expenses, base and tax are separate lines.
An invoice is saved as a draft and shown as a form on screen. It has no PDF button, and the “Изтегли PDF” (Download PDF) icon in the list does nothing yet. The app does not email invoices, file them with the tax office, watch the VAT registration limit or check that a document meets the legal requirements for an invoice: that is for you and your accountant.
The number and date are set when you save, not from the editor fields, and “Начин на плащане” (Payment method) is kept only when you edit a saved invoice. The server recalculates the total in the “Фактури” (Invoices) list and charges VAT only if “Настройки” (Settings) holds a VAT number, so it can differ from the form. The discount does not come back when you open a saved invoice: saved again, the total is without it.
“Общи приходи” (Total revenue) on the dashboard counts only invoices that are not drafts, while the editor saves every invoice as a draft, so revenue may stay at 0.00 €. The declarations are drafts to check with the tax office program. There is no English screen.
Questions about invoices, proformas and credit notes
How to make an invoice for freelance work?
You prepare an invoice as a document to look at on screen. Open “Фактури” (Invoices), press “Нова Фактура” (New invoice), pick a client, add lines, set the due date and press “Запази фактурата” (Save invoice). It stays a draft; the number and date are set on saving.
Proforma invoice vs invoice: what is the difference here?
In this app both use one form: pick “Проформа” (Proforma) and the title of the form changes. The app does not decide which document fits your case; ask your accountant.
How to write a credit note?
Pick “Кредитно” (Credit). The form is titled credit note; write the number of the original invoice in the notes yourself, because the app does not link the two documents.
Does the invoice generator work in English?
No. The screen, the buttons and the calculators are in Bulgarian only. The explanations on this page are in English.
