The VzBot Custom is an FDM 3D printer from VzBot with a 235 x 235 x 235 mm build volume.

Specifications

The VzBot Custom represents the pinnacle of custom, high-speed FDM 3D printing, moving far beyond the boundaries of standard DIY kits into the realm of industrial-grade additive manufacturing. The core philosophy of a custom VzBot build is the absolute maximization of mechanical and thermal performance. This is achieved by implementing AWD (All-Wheel Drive) kinematics, liquid-cooled extrusion systems, ultra-high-voltage stepper driver circuits (48V to 60V), and actively heated build chambers. Every custom VzBot is a highly engineered, bespoke machine tailored to the demanding specifications of advanced research labs, design engineering firms, and high-speed printing enthusiasts.

Calibration

Managing the extreme performance of a custom VzBot requires a meticulous, step-by-step calibration procedure to prevent catastrophic component failures:

  • AWD Motor Synchronization and Phase Alignment: Because the X/Y axes are driven by four motors, they must work in absolute synchronization. Misconfigured phase wiring can cause the motors to fight each other, bending the gantry and overheating the drivers.

Common defects

  • Hardware defects and mechanical weaknesses
  • Belt Slippage and Degradation under AWD Load: The massive acceleration forces (40K+) can stretch or shred fiberglass-reinforced belts. Solution: Use Gates Carbon Drive belts reinforced with carbon fiber tensile cords, which possess a tensile modulus close to steel.

What it is used for

Best use-cases:

  • High-Performance Engineering Parts: Ideal for printing advanced materials like PEEK, PEKK, Ultem (PEI), and PPSU thanks to active chamber heat and high-temp hotends.
  • Industrial Prototyping: Extremely fast production of structural models, reducing development cycles from days to hours.
