The VzBot Base is an FDM 3D printer from VzBot with a 235 x 235 x 235 mm build volume.

Specifications

In the high-performance FDM 3D printing ecosystem, the VzBot Base stands as an engineering-driven, open-source masterpiece designed specifically for speed, acceleration, and mechanical rigidity. Originally conceived by Simon Vekemans (Veez) as a highly modified evolution of the TronXY X5SA CoreXY printer, it has blossomed into a standalone project backed by a passionate global community. Unlike off-the-shelf commercial machines that compromise speed for manufacturing cost, the VzBot is designed from the ground up to minimize moving mass while maximizing structural strength.

Calibration

To achieve peak speed and maintain flawless print quality, the VzBot requires a rigorous calibration workflow:

  • Frame Squaring and Alignment: Before tightening the structural profile fasteners, use a high-precision engineer's square. Any deviation greater than 0.1 mm over a 300 mm run will cause Y-axis binding and premature linear rail wear.
  • Expected result: Completely parallel linear rails with smooth, effortless gantry movement when pushed by hand.

Common defects

  • Hardware defects and mechanical weaknesses
  • Z-Axis Wobble and Cantilever Sag: In single Z-motor lead screw configurations, the heavy print bed can wobble or sag, leading to visible horizontal banding. Solution: Upgrade the printer to a belted triple-Z axis configuration. This links three independent Z steppers to the bed carriage, enabling Klipper's automated Z-tilt calibration to lock the bed in a level plane.

What it is used for

Best use-cases:

  • Industrial Rapid Prototyping: The ability to print complex parts in hours instead of days makes it a valuable asset for mechanical engineers.
  • High-Temperature Engineering Prints: Perfect for printing structural components in ABS, ASA, Polycarbonate (PC), and Carbon Fiber Nylon (PA-CF) due to its enclosed chamber and high-temp hotend.
