Proxima 8.9 4K

The Proxima 8.9 4K is an LCD 3D printer from Voxelab with a 192 x 120 x 200 mm build volume.

Type: MSLA (LCD mask stereolithography, 405 nm)

Light Engine: 8.9-inch monochrome 4K LCD panel with improved light-permeability coating: more uniform UV distribution than the previous Proxima 6.0 with 2K color screen.

Build Volume: 192 × 120 × 200 mm: standard for budget MSLA; suitable for medium prototypes and individual figures.

XY Resolution: ~76 µm pixel: sufficient for simple shapes and beginners; not competitive for detailed miniatures or precision parts in 2023+ market.

Speed: 17–25 mm/h: among the lower end of the class; 3 mm/s is typical lift speed.

Materials: Open material system: any 405 nm resin; Voxelab Standard and third-party brands.

Calibration

Leveling: Manual (paper-test). Mandatory after any transport or FEP change: without auto-leveling, leveling error is the leading cause of failed prints.

Bottom Exposure: 6–8 layers × 45–60 s for standard resin. For water-washable resins, reduce to 30 s for easier release after print.

RERF Test: VoxelPrint and Chitubox have built-in RERF tests: mandatory for each new resin at 50 µm working layer.

Common defects

Bed Adhesion Failure: Re-level and increase bottom exposure. Clean platform with IPA before each print.

Suction Cup Effect: Orient flat parts at 30–45°; add drainage holes in closed volumes.

Edge Softness at Corners: Light falloff at 8.9 inches: position critical details in build area center.

Layer Lines: Check Z-lead screw tightness; increase rest time after lift to 0.5 s.

What it is used for

First Resin Printer: €200 with 4K mono technology is a good starting point for a beginner: minimal financial risk while learning resin printing workflow.

Education and Training: Chitubox/VoxelPrint skills are directly transferable when upgrading to a better printer.
