Sonic Mini 4K

The Sonic Mini 4K is an LCD 3D printer from Phrozen with a 134 x 75 x 130 mm build volume.

Specifications

Light Engine: 6.1-inch 4K monochrome LCD, 3840×2160 px, 35 µm XY resolution, 722 PPI: record pixel density at launch (2021). Mono screen enables 2-second layer cure times.

Optics/UV Array: Parallel 405 nm UV LED array; parallel illumination reduces blooming at 35 µm pixel pitch.

Platform: Aluminium build plate with manual 4-bolt levelling; single linear Z-rail; weight ~4 kg.

Build Volume: 134 × 75 × 130 mm: compact, suited for miniatures and jewelry, but limited for larger parts.

Enclosure: Passive UV-blocking orange acrylic cover; no active cooling or filtration.

Speed: 2 s/layer standard; practical throughput ~20–35 mm/h at 50 µm layers with 2 s cure.

Calibration

1. Paper Levelling: Run Home, check all 4 corners with A4 paper; tighten bolts symmetrically at consistent resistance.

2. Bottom Exposure: 4–6 btm layers at 40–60 s for standard resin; verify with small test raft.

3. Normal Exposure (RERF): Print RERF test file: column bridges should be 0.5 mm without blooming at 35 µm.

4. Anti-Aliasing: Enable AA Level 4 in Chitubox for organic shapes and miniatures.

Common defects

Delamination from build plate: Re-level; increase Btm Exp Time; adjust Z offset.

Blooming at 35 µm pixel: Reduce Normal Exp by 0.5 s; avoid over-cured resin blends.

Warping on flat parts: Tilt model; work at T ≥ 20°C; use anti-warp raft settings.

Suction cup effect: Add drain holes in hollow bodies; reduce lift speed to 40 mm/min.

What it is used for

Tabletop Miniatures: 35 µm and 2 s/layer = detailed 28 mm figures, 5–10 per print in 2–3 hours.

Jewelry & Lost-Wax Casting: Castable resins with fine detail; ash-free burnout for delicate jewelry.

Dental Study Models: 35 µm sufficient for diagnostic dental models and aligner templates.
