The Trident (Kit) is an FDM 3D printer from Voron Design (LDO) with a 250 x 250 x 250 mm build volume.

Specifications

The Voron Design (LDO) Trident (Kit) is a prosumer-grade FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) 3D printer delivered as a self-assembly DIY kit. This package is based on the open-source specifications of Voron Design, but curated and manufactured by LDO Motors as a premium component kit. The standard build volume for this kit version is 250 mm (X) x 250 mm (Y) x 250 mm (Z).

Kinematics: Real CoreXY Motion vs. Config Discrepancy

Although some configuration files might list this model's kinematics as a "bedslinger" (typically used for i3-style Cartesian printers where the bed moves along the Y-axis), the Voron Trident is a CoreXY 3D printer.

Calibration

Follow this 8-step calibration guide to configure the Voron Trident Kit for optimal printing.

  • Frame Squaring during Assembly

Assembly precision directly impacts print quality. When assembling the aluminum extrusions, check each joint with a machinist's square. Measure the frame diagonals in all three planes.

  • Expected result: Diagonal differences under 1.0 mm to ensure a square frame and prevent linear rail binding.

Common defects

  • Hardware defects and mechanical weaknesses
  • Z-Axis Binding from Misaligned Linear Rails: The bed travels along three MGN9 linear rails. If these rails are not parallel, the bed will bind during Z travel. This loads the Z-motors and causes skipped steps or layer lines. To resolve this, loosen the rail mounting screws, run the bed through its full travel to align the rails, and re-tighten the screws.

What it is used for

Best Use-Cases

  • High-Speed ABS/ASA Printing: The enclosed chamber and CoreXY kinematics are suitable for printing ABS and ASA parts quickly without warping [6, 9].
  • Precision Prototyping: The Z-tilt auto-leveling and MGN linear rails provide high dimensional accuracy for engineering assemblies.
