Specifications

The Vertex Delta K8800 3D printer, manufactured by the Belgian firm Velleman N.V., is a delta-style FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) machine. This model target hobbyists, educational environments, and small prototyping laboratories that value the specific benefits of delta kinematics: high travel speeds, an engaging mechanical motion, and vertical print efficiency for tall cylindrical objects.

Kinematics and Motion System (Delta Geometry)

In contrast to standard Cartesian printers where the print head moves along separate X and Y linear gantries and the build plate moves along the Z-axis, the Vertex Delta K8800 operates on a specialized mechanical coordinate translation system.

Calibration

Delta printers are capable of running for years without maintenance once properly calibrated. However, the initial alignment of carriage endstops, arm lengths, and horizontal radii must be done with extreme precision.

  • Delta Radius and Calibration Offsets Tuning

Delta Radius determines the horizontal curvature calculation. If this value is incorrect, the nozzle will carve too close to the bed or hover too high as it moves away from the center of the build plate.

Common defects

  • Hardware defects and mechanical weaknesses
  • Magnetic Joint Wear: Over time, the magnetic cups on the carbon rods wear down, introducing slop. This play results in inconsistent extrusion paths and dimensional inaccuracies. Solution: Regularly inspect the rods, apply dry lubricant, and replace worn carbon rods with genuine Velleman spare parts or high-quality aftermarket equivalents.

What it is used for

Best use-cases

  • Tall Cylindrical and Organic Designs: The delta motion system is suited for printing vases, columns, figures, and organic shapes, producing smooth curved walls without X/Y coordinate artifacts.
  • Rapid PLA Prototyping: Ideal for printing conceptual models in PLA since the BuildTak bed does not require heating, saving energy and warmup time.
