The TruPrint 1000 Green Edition uses the TRUMPF TruDisk 1020: a disc laser with 1 kW output power at 515 nm (green wavelength), as opposed to the standard 1,070 nm IR lasers used across the industry. The difference is fundamental: pure copper absorbs less than 2% of IR radiation at room temperature, but absorbs approximately 40% of 515 nm green light: a threshold difference that makes a stable LPBF process physically possible only with a green laser.

Calibration

Calibrating the TruPrint 1000 Green Edition

• Copper substrate plate: Use the proprietary copper substrate plate (not aluminum). Level to < 20 µm deviation. Tip: Copper deforms under excessive heating: verify plate geometry every 5–10 cycles.
• Green laser profiling and stabilization: Allow the TruDisk 1020 to operate for 30 minutes after power-on before calibration. Check the Gaussian beam profile at a 50 µm target aperture.

Common defects

Common Defects on the TruPrint 1000 Green Edition

Excessive Spattering

Symptoms: metal droplets on chamber walls; inclusions in the powder layer; visible surface contamination. Cause: unstable melt pool behavior near the copper absorption transition at the melting point (~1,085 °C): even small VED deviations can destabilize the melt track. Fix: precise VED optimization; verify gas knife function; clean the protective glass regularly.

• Copper inductors for induction heating: Only 100% IACS copper delivers minimal losses. AM enables internal cooling channels and optimized coil geometries impossible by conventional machining.
