Specifications

In the landscape of custom-built, DIY (Do-It-Yourself) CoreXY 3D printers, the SecKit SK-Tank designed by SecKit 3DP Design stands out for its uncompromising structural rigidity and engineering focus on mechanical stability. Built to address the physical limitations of earlier-generation CoreXY designs, the SK-Tank incorporates industrial-grade components into a package accessible to dedicated makers and engineering professionals.

  • Hotend: The SK-Tank features a modular toolhead carriage that supports a variety of direct-drive extruders and hotends.

Calibration

Unlike standard consumer 3D printers, the SK-Tank demands a rigorous engineering approach to setup and calibration. Here are eight steps to calibrate the machine for peak performance:

  • Frame Assembly and Gantry Squaring:
  • Process: With a carbon fiber X-gantry, squaring the Y-axis rails is critical. Measure the distance between the left and right Y-rails at the front and back of the frame, ensuring it is parallel within 0.1 mm. Assemble the frame on a verified flat surface.

Common defects

  • Hardware defects and mechanical weaknesses
  • Symptom: Closed-loop servo jitter or step loss.
  • Cause: Improper current settings on the MKS Servo42C driver boards or low voltage headroom on high-acceleration moves.
  • Solution: Adjust the current potentiometer on the driver boards and run the motors at a higher supply voltage (e.g., 36V or 48V).
  • Symptom: Z-axis sag when powered off.

What it is used for

Best use-cases

  • Industrial Engineering Prototypes: Ideal for printing ABS, ASA, and Nylon parts due to the enclosed chamber and high-rigidity frame.
  • Large-Format Structural Parts: The 350x350x400 mm volume allows printing of substantial brackets, enclosures, and structural mounts.
