Specifications

The RatRig V-Core 3 300mm is the most popular variant of the flagship CoreXY series from the Portuguese manufacturer RatRig, introduced in 2021. This model represents the "sweet spot" of the lineup, offering a balanced compromise between large build capacity and mechanical speed. The structure is engineered to minimize mechanical vibrations and deliver outstanding surface finishes during high-velocity directional changes.

  • Hotend: The printer kit does not include a pre-installed hotend. Instead, it relies on the modular EVA 3 toolhead assembly. This platform supports high-performance hotends, including the Phaetus Rapido, E3D V6, Revo, Mosquito, and Dragonfly.

Calibration

Tuning a Klipper-based CoreXY printer requires a calibration process focused on resonance mapping and dynamic motion compensation.

  • PEI Sheet Degreasing: Clean the PEI build plate with 99.9% Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) before every print.
  • Expected result: Complete removal of hand oils and dust, ensuring maximum first-layer adhesion during high-acceleration print runs.

Common defects

Despite its robust design, the V-Core 3 300mm has specific hardware vulnerabilities and software configuration quirks.

  • Hardware defects and mechanical weaknesses
  • Idler Bearing Wear: The CoreXY belt routing relies on multiple small flanged idler bearings (F694). High speed and belt tension place heavy loads on these bearings. Lower-grade bearings can fail, causing noise or gantry binding. Upgrading to high-quality Japanese bearings is a recommended long-term solution.

What it is used for

Excellent Use-Cases:

  • High-Speed Functional Prototyping: Ideal for printing functional parts in ABS, ASA, and Nylon at speeds that outpace standard desktop bedslingers.
  • Composite Material Printing: The direct-drive extruder setup on the EVA 3 toolhead handles carbon-fiber and glass-filled filaments with ease.
