The Raise3D N2 Plus Dual is an FDM 3D printer from Raise3D with a 305 x 305 x 610 mm build volume.

Specifications

The Raise3D N2 Plus Dual is a professional-grade FDM 3D printer launched in 2016. At the time of its release, it set a new benchmark for large-format desktop printing, combining a massive vertical build volume with a dual direct-drive extrusion system. It is designed as an industrial workhorse, encased in a rigid, fully enclosed aluminum frame.

  • Hotend: Equipped with twin Raise3D V2 all-metal hotends, this machine is capable of reaching print temperatures up to 300°C. The hotends utilize high-wattage heater cartridges, copper heater blocks, and are compatible with standard V6-style threaded nozzles.

Calibration

Achieving consistent results from this mechanical system requires a meticulous calibration protocol. Because the printer lacks software compensation algorithms like mesh bed leveling, any physical misalignment will translate directly into cosmetic or structural print defects.

  • Build Plate Cleaning: The aluminum build plate must be thoroughly cleaned with 99.9% Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) and a lint-free microfiber cloth before every print.

Common defects

While the Raise3D N2 Plus Dual is mechanically robust, it has several well-documented hardware vulnerabilities and firmware bugs that users must manage.

  • Hardware defects and mechanical weaknesses
  • Heavy Extruder Carriage Assembly: The dual direct-drive configuration utilizes two NEMA 17 stepper motors mounted directly on the carriage. This makes the toolhead extremely heavy (approx. 850g), leading to ringing, ghosting, and layer shifts at print speeds above 80 mm/s.

What it is used for

Excellent Use-Cases:

  • Large-Scale Architectural and Industrial Models: The massive Z-axis build volume (610 mm) makes it an exceptional choice for printing large scale architectural models, full-size automotive trim pieces, and large enclosures without dividing the models into smaller segments.
