Sonic Mini 8K

The Sonic Mini 8K is an LCD 3D printer from Phrozen with a 165 x 72 x 180 mm build volume.

Specifications

Light Engine: 7.1-inch 8K monochrome LCD, 22 µm XY resolution, 1152 PPI: record pixel density for consumer resin printers at launch (2022). 8K mono screen delivers ~2× more detail than 4K equivalents while maintaining 2 s cure times.

Optics/UV Array: Parallel 405 nm UV LED array with high uniformity; critical at 22 µm pitch to prevent blooming.

Platform: Aluminium build plate (165×72 mm) with manual 4-bolt levelling; single linear Z-rail; weight ~4.5 kg.

Build Volume: 165 × 72 × 180 mm: compact and narrow on Y, optimised for miniature batches and dental arches. Launched with recommended Phrozen Aqua-Gray 8K resin (specially formulated for 22 µm pixels).

Calibration

1. Paper Levelling: A4 sheet, Home command, tighten 4 bolts symmetrically: critical at 22 µm pixel pitch.

2. RERF Test for Aqua-Gray 8K: Print RERF with Normal Exp 2.0–3.0 s in 0.5 s steps; select column with 0.2 mm bridges without blooming.

3. Lift Speed Optimisation: Fast resins: lift 80 mm/min, rest 1.5 s. Viscous resins: lift 40 mm/min, rest 2–3 s.

4. Grayscale AA: Enable Lychee Slicer AA Level 4 or equivalent in Chitubox: critical for 22 µm inclined surfaces.

Common defects

Overcure at 22 µm: Strictly follow recommended exposure times; 0.2 s excess can flood 50 µm features.

Suction cup / FEP sticking: Orient parts at 30–45°; add ≥1 mm drain holes in hollow bodies.

Z banding (layer lines): Reduce lift speed; check Z-rail bolt tightness; enable AA.

Raft warping: Warm resin to 25°C; 4–5 btm layers; anti-warp raft in Chitubox.

What it is used for

Ultra-detail Miniatures: 22 µm = hair strands and engravings impossible on 35–50 µm competitors; 165×72×180 mm fits a full session batch.

Dental Models: 22 µm + Aqua-Gray 8K = arch models and orthodontic study models with diagnostic accuracy.

Lost-Wax Jewelry: Precise rings and ornaments without post-processing using castable 405 nm resins.
