Sonic Mighty 4K

The Sonic Mighty 4K is an LCD 3D printer from Phrozen with a 200 x 125 x 220 mm build volume.

Specifications

Light Engine

9.3-inch monochrome 4K LCD panel (3840×2400 pixels) with a 405 nm UV LED array. XY resolution is 52 µm per pixel.

Optics / Illumination

Parallel UV LED array with matte diffuser for even intensity. Monochrome panel delivers ~2 s per 50 µm layer: significantly faster than RGB LCD predecessors.

Platform

Perforated aluminium build plate with manual levelling and dual linear Z-rails over a 220 mm stroke.

Build Volume

200 × 125 × 220 mm: balanced size for hobbyist and semi-professional resin printing.

Vat

Standard FEP vat without automatic refill. FEP replacement is a manual operation.

Software

Chitubox, Lychee Slicer, Phrozen Slicer.

Calibration

Manual Levelling

Paper-sheet method: level at room temperature 23-25°C for correct FEP gap.

Exposure Matrix Test

AmeraLabs Town or Phrozen test at ±0.5 s intervals around the resin-manufacturer baseline.

FEP Inspection

IPA + backlight check every ~1-2 kg of resin. Replace when cloudy.

AA Settings

Level 4-8 in Chitubox for smoother angled surfaces without overexposure.

Common defects

Suction Cupping

Closed cavities → drainage holes ≥2 mm + reduced lift speed.

Overexposure

Lost detail → reduce normal ExpT + re-run Exposure Matrix.

Failed Platform Adhesion

Layer sticks to FEP → re-level + clean platform with IPA.

Z-banding

Layer lines → tighten Z-nut, lubricate Z-rod.

What it is used for

Tabletop Miniatures

52 µm pixel is below the visible pixelation threshold for 28-54 mm figures; 220 mm Z accommodates cavalry and large monsters.

Jewellery Casting

~20 rings per batch with castable resin; clean wax patterns for investment casting.

Dental Prototyping

Dental models and orthodontic splints using biocompatible resins.
