The Nwa3D A5 is an FDM 3D printer from Nwa 3D LLC with a 125 x 150 x 100 mm build volume.

Specifications

The Nwa3D A5 is a compact desktop FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) 3D printer designed and distributed by Nwa3D LLC, targeting the K-12 educational sector, school maker spaces, and STEM laboratories. The printer is engineered to provide an accessible, safe, and easily maintainable platform for students and educators learning the fundamentals of additive manufacturing and 3D design.

  • Kinematics & Motion System: The printer uses a standard Cartesian motion layout in a "bed-slinger" configuration. The heated print bed moves along the Y-axis, while the print head carriage travels along the X-axis on a vertical Z-axis gantry.

Calibration

Achieving clean prints and long-term reliability on the Nwa3D A5 requires following this calibration process:

  • BuildTak Surface Degreasing:

Before starting a print, clean the build plate with 99% pure Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) and a lint-free wipe. In classrooms, students frequently touch the print bed, leaving skin oils that compromise filament adhesion.

  • Expected result: A grease-free build surface, ensuring strong first-layer adhesion and preventing warped corners.

Common defects

  • Hardware defects and mechanical weaknesses
  • Bowden Collet Failure: The pneumatic fittings that secure the PTFE tube to the extruder and hotend can wear out quickly. The teeth inside the fitting lose grip, allowing the tube to slide back and forth during retractions or pop out entirely.
  • Solution: Install locking clips under the collet collars or replace them with high-quality metal fittings.

What it is used for

Best use-cases

  • Classroom STEM Education: Providing a safe, simple tool for introducing students to 3D design and engineering workflows.
  • Small Prototypes: Quickly printing visual models and prototypes smaller than 10 cm.
  • Simple Mechanical Assemblies: Fabricating toy gears, links, and blocks to demonstrate physics concepts.

Unsuitable use-cases (Anti-cases).
