The Kosher Mirror is an FDM 3D printer from Sri Vignan Technologies with a 200 x 200 x 200 mm build volume.

Specifications

The Kosher Mirror is a specialized FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) 3D printer designed and manufactured by Sri Vignan Technologies, an electronics R&D and drone development firm based in Tirupati, India. Targeted primarily at educational labs, STEM projects, and hobbyist developers in regional markets, the printer is designed as an open-frame Cartesian assembly kit. Its architecture is built around standard 2020 and 2040 V-slot aluminum extrusions, making it modular and highly customizable, but requiring manual assembly and calibration.

  • Hotend: The extruder assembly is equipped with an MK8 or E3D V6 clone hotend (varying by production run) using a PTFE-lined heat break.

Calibration

Achieving high-quality prints and reliable operation with the Kosher Mirror requires a meticulous, hands-on calibration workflow. Follow these eight steps to tune the hardware:

  • Manual Bed Leveling (Paper Test):

Preheat the nozzle to 150°C (to soften any hard plastic residue) and the bed to 60°C. Using a 0.10 mm metal feeler gauge or a standard sheet of copy paper, home the Z-axis. Manually move the print head to the four corners directly above the leveling screws.

Common defects

  • Hardware defects and mechanical weaknesses
  • Z-Axis Gantry Sagging and Desynchronization: In dual Z-axis versions, the two stepper motors can easily lose sync when the printer is powered down, or the right side of the gantry can sag if only a single Z screw is installed.
  • Symptoms: Bed leveling errors that worsen on one side, uneven layer heights, and extrusion failures on the right side of the bed.

What it is used for

Suitable applications

  • STEM Education and DIY Prototyping Labs: The open design of the printer makes it an excellent teaching tool. Students can see every moving part, sensor, and cable, making it perfect for teaching mechatronics, kinematics, and basic additive manufacturing principles.
