The Kosher is an FDM 3D printer from Sri Vignan Technologies with a 200 x 200 x 200 mm build volume.

Specifications

The Sri Vignan Technologies Kosher is a modular, open-frame DIY desktop FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) 3D printer designed and manufactured by Sri Vignan Technologies, an engineering solutions provider based in Tirupati, India. This printer is primarily positioned as an educational kit, research platform, and entry-level prototyping tool for engineering colleges, maker spaces, and small businesses. Its open-source hardware approach allows users to modify structural components, electronics, and toolheads to fit custom applications.

  • Technology: FDM/FFF (Fused Filament Fabrication) with a standard 1.75 mm filament pathway.

Calibration

Configuring and calibrating the modular Kosher 3D printer requires a hands-on technical approach. Follow these 8 calibration steps:

  • Glass Bed Cleaning and Manual Tramming:

Due to the open-frame design, dust and finger oils collect on the glass surface, leading to first-layer adhesion failures.

Procedure: Clean the glass bed with 99% isopropyl alcohol (IPA) using a lint-free cloth. Heat the bed to 60°C and the nozzle to 200°C.

Common defects

  • Hardware defects and mechanical weaknesses
  • X-Axis Sagging on Single Z-Axis Revisions: On models with a single Z-axis lead screw, the side of the X-axis gantry without the screw can sag slightly under the weight of the Direct Drive extruder. Symptoms: Inconsistent first-layer adhesion across the bed (tighter on the left, looser on the right). Solution: Tighten the V-slot roller wheels to remove play, or upgrade to a dual Z-axis lead screw kit.

What it is used for

Suitable Materials and Applications:

  • Education and Training: Ideal for engineering labs and classrooms where students need to assemble, program, and maintain the printer components.
  • PLA and Flexible TPU Printing: The Direct Drive extruder handles standard PLA and flexible TPU filaments well.
