The KLEMA 500 is an FDM 3D printer from KLEMA with a 500 x 500 x 500 mm build volume.

Specifications

The KLEMA 500 is a large-format, high-temperature industrial FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) 3D printer designed for manufacturing large functional prototypes, production tooling, and end-use parts. Engineered by the Ukrainian manufacturer KLEMA (3DDevice), this machine is optimized for continuous 24/7 operations under substantial mechanical and thermal loads.

  • Technology: FDM/FFF (Fused Filament Fabrication) with a standard 1.75 mm filament pathway.
  • Build Volume: 500 × 500 × 500 mm (125-liter build chamber volume).

Calibration

Maintaining and calibrating a large-format 3D printer requires a systematic engineering approach. Follow these 8 calibration steps:

  • Mechanical Z-Axis Synchronization:

The heavy 500x500 mm bed is supported by multiple Z-axis screws. If the motors fall out of sync, the bed will tilt, causing severe alignment issues.

Procedure: Turn off the printer. Manually measure the distance from the bed frame to the bottom chassis at all four corners using a precision spacer block.

Common defects

  • Hardware defects and mechanical weaknesses
  • Aluminum Bed Thermal Warping: Despite the 8 mm thickness, the temperature difference between the top of the bed (cooled by the chamber) and the bottom (heated by the silicone) can cause the bed to warp into a dome shape. Symptoms: Prints fail to stick in the center or lift at the edges. Solution: Allow 20–30 minutes of thermal soak time, and use a dense 7x7 bed mesh to compensate.

What it is used for

Suitable Materials and Applications:

  • Large-Scale Prototyping: Ideal for automotive prototyping (bumpers, dashboards, ducts), foundry mold patterns, and large architectural mockups.
  • Industrial Enclosures: Well-suited for printing large protective housings and junction boxes using durable materials like ASA or carbon-fiber composites (ABS-CF).
