The Kingroon Base Printer is an FDM 3D printer from Kingroon with a 180 x 180 x 180 mm build volume.

Specifications

The Kingroon Base Printer (representing the original Kingroon KP3 model) is an ultra-compact, cantilever-style desktop FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) 3D printer that gained widespread popularity in the hobbyist community. In an era (circa 2019–2020) when most budget printers relied on V-roller wheels running along aluminum slots, Kingroon introduced factory-installed MGN12 linear guide rails on the X and Y axes. This motion design provided high rigidity and printing accuracy at an entry-level price point.

  • Hotend: The toolhead is configured with a Direct Drive Titan Clone extruder.

Calibration

Follow this calibration cookbook to align the mechanics and optimize prints on the Kingroon Base Printer:

  • Cantilever Gantry Squaring (Z-Column Alignment): Because the printer uses a cantilever design, verify that the vertical Z-column is perpendicular to the base (exactly 90.0° in both X and Y axes) using an engineer's square. Adjust the mounting bolts under the printer base until the gantry is square.

Common defects

  • Hardware defects and mechanical weaknesses
  • Cantilever Gantry Sag: Because the X-axis is only supported on the left side, the right side of the gantry can sag over time under the weight of the Direct Drive toolhead. This leads to uneven nozzle clearance when traveling from left to right. Fix: Adjust the eccentric rollers on the Z-carriage carriage or install a dual Z-axis upgrade kit.

What it is used for

Best use-cases

  • Small Precision Parts in PLA/PETG: Due to the linear guide rails on X and Y, the printer is well-suited for printing detailed miniatures, mechanical assemblies, and decorative models.
  • Flexible Components in TPU (Shore 95A): The direct-drive Titan clone extruder handles standard TPU well, making it suitable for gaskets, dampers, and phone cases.
