Print Technology

Multi Jet Fusion (MJF), a thermal inkjet process: the platform is coated with a powder layer, then a print carriage with 30,720 nozzles deposits Fusing Agent (black) and Detailing Agent (clear) along contours; an infrared lamp then fuses only the treated zones. The process is parallel across the entire layer: speed is independent of part count.

Resolution and Accuracy

1200 dpi XY agent deposition; minimum 80 µm layer. Dimensional accuracy ±0.3 mm at 100 mm: typical for MJF, requiring scaling compensation in SmartStream or Magics.

Build rate 4115 cm³/h: substantially above SLS competitors.

Calibration

Calibration: HP Jet Fusion 3D 4200

• Build Unit loading and powder check: the Processing Station loads the BU with PA12 at an 80% refresh ratio (20% fresh powder). A gravimetric sensor confirms the level within ±2%. The BU locks mechanically before transfer to the printer.
• Fusing Agent and Detailing Agent check: both agents must be above 10% before starting a job. DA is critical for edge detail: low level causes blurry outlines.

Gray surface finish (technology characteristic)

All parts are gray/black due to the black Fusing Agent: not a defect, but an inherent limitation. For white parts: HP JF 5420W; for color: post-processing.

Dimensional deviation

Systematic +0.3 to +0.8 mm in X/Y. Cause: thermal expansion of powder at 180 °C. Fix: scaling compensation in SmartStream; do not apply to Z-axis: it is more accurate.

Orange-peel on top surfaces.
