Specifications

HP Jet Fusion 340, Technical Overview

Technology

HP Multi Jet Fusion (MJF), a powder-bed polymer process in which an infrared heating lamp activates the powder bed while precision inkjet printheads deposit fusing and detailing agents to define geometry layer by layer.

Build Volume

190 × 254 × 248 mm (X × Y × Z). Significantly more compact than the 4200-series flagship (380 × 284 × 380 mm), but sufficient for prototypes and small production runs.

Resolution and Layers

1200 dpi print resolution; fixed 80 µm layer thickness. Minimum wall thickness of ~0.5 mm is recommended for structural integrity.

Agent System.

Calibration

Calibration: HP Jet Fusion 340

  • Agent system diagnostic test: before every production run, print an agent diagnostic page from HP SmartStream Build Manager. Expect uniform coverage with no streaks or blind spots. If issues are detected, run the Head Cleaning Routine.
  • Build Unit leveling and installation: place the cooled Build Unit into the printer and lock the levers. The system automatically verifies leveling. Expect a green status in the interface.

Common defects

Common Defects: HP Jet Fusion 340

Warping and Distortion

The most frequent issue with flat and thin-walled parts. Cause: uneven cooling or removing the Build Unit from the printer too quickly. Fix: follow the full 40+ hour cooling cycle; orient flat parts at 45° to the XY plane in Build Manager.

Porosity and Incomplete Walls

Manifests as small voids or weak zones in cross-sections. Cause: clogged or worn printhead; depleted fusing agent.

What it is used for

Applications, HP Jet Fusion 340

Best applications:

  • Functional PA 12 prototypes, the isotropic mechanical properties of MJF parts (48 MPa tensile strength, 18% elongation) make them ideal for testing assemblies, snap-fits, and ergonomics.
  • Short-run production: up to ~52 parts per Build Unit in ~15 hours; no supports means less manual post-processing labor.
