Laser

Single 30 W CO₂ laser tube at ~10,600 nm, standard for polymer SLS. The Velocis variant achieves scan speeds up to 5 m/s, delivering up to 20% higher productivity than its predecessor.

Calibration

Calibration: EOS FORMIGA P 110 Velocis

• Powder refresh: Prepare a blend of fresh and recycled powder at EOS's recommended ratio for your material (e.g. PA 2200: 50% fresh minimum). Sieve the recycled powder (160 µm mesh). Expected: uniform, lump-free layer during recoating. Tip: log your refresh ratio: too much recycled powder leads to orange peel surface.
• Chamber warm-up: Run the automatic warm-up cycle (30–90 minutes depending on material).

Common defects

Defects: EOS FORMIGA P 110 Velocis

Warping

Flat and thin-walled parts distort or have corners lifting up. Cause: thermal gradient between sintering zone and surrounding cooler powder; too-rapid cooling. Fix: increase chamber temperature by 1–2 °C; orient flat parts at a slight angle; extend cooling time before depowdering.

Orange Peel Surface

Surface resembles orange peel instead of smooth sintering.
