The XYZprinting da Vinci Jr. 1.0A Pro is an FDM 3D printer from XYZprinting with a 150 x 150 x 150 mm build volume.

Specifications

The XYZprinting da Vinci Jr. 1.0A Pro is a compact, fully enclosed desktop FDM 3D printer designed for educational environments, beginners, and light professional use. It belongs to the "Junior" series of XYZprinting but features the "Pro" designation, which indicates support for third-party 1.75 mm filaments (open filament system), an upgraded quick-release modular hotend, and compatibility with a laser engraver. Despite the constraints of its unheated print bed and lightweight build, the printer is a precise machine that requires an understanding of its mechanical limitations to operate effectively.

Calibration

Tuning the XYZprinting da Vinci Jr. 1.0A Pro requires preparing the unheated glass bed and ensuring the 9-point calibration sensor operates accurately. Follow these eight calibration steps:

  • Cleaning the Leveling Contact Probe: Clean the tip of the metal contact probe next to the nozzle using Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) or a wire brush. Any residue of plastic on the tip will act as an insulator, resulting in incorrect bed height readings.

Common defects

  • Hardware defects and mechanical weaknesses
  • Print Head Cable Harness Failures: The wiring harness that connects the print head to the mainboard is subject to continuous bending during printing, which can cause internal wire fractures.
  • Symptoms: Intermittent connection losses, heating errors, or erratic Z-probe readings mid-print.
  • Causes: Mechanical fatigue of the copper wires due to a tight bend radius in the routing.

What it is used for

  • Classrooms and STEM Programs: The enclosed design, passive safety features, and low noise make it suitable for schools and educational environments printing PLA models.
  • Hobbyist Prints with PLA and Tough PLA: Slices and prints standard PLA toys, organizers, and simple prototypes reliably.
