The Uni-Print-3D is an FDM 3D printer from TheCoolTool with a 186 x 220 x 230 mm build volume.

Specifications

The Uni-Print-3D printer, manufactured by the Austrian company TheCoolTool, is a highly specialized, industrially oriented educational 3D printing platform. TheCoolTool is globally recognized for its modular educational CNC machine systems, and the Uni-Print-3D represents their extension into additive manufacturing. The printer is characterized by its exceptionally rigid mechanical build and unique integration with the Machinekit control software (a LinuxCNC-based operating system designed for real-time control).

  • Extruders and Hotends: Features a geared Direct Drive extruder that provides high filament feeding force.

Calibration

Tuning the Uni-Print-3D requires an understanding of the Machinekit software architecture and careful mechanical adjustment:

  • Adjusting the Brass sliding sleeve bearings on X/Y axes: These bushings feature adjustment screws that compress the brass sleeve against the steel guide shaft. Loosen them slightly, then tighten incrementally until axial play (slight wobble) is eliminated, while ensuring the axis moves freely.

Common defects

  • Hardware defects and mechanical weaknesses
  • Wear of Adjustable Brass Bushings: With heavy use and insufficient lubrication, the brass sleeves wear down unevenly, causing slop in the print head and XY dimensional inaccuracies.
  • Solution: Clean linear shafts with degreaser and apply Teflon-based grease every 100 print hours. Tighten the bushing adjustment screws slightly if play develops.

What it is used for

Best use-cases

  • CNC and Mechatronics Technical Training: Excellent for teaching real-time motion control, HAL configuration, and industrial CNC kinematics.
  • Precision Engineering Parts in PLA, PETG, and Nylon: The rigid frame and Z-axis ball screw ensure excellent layer registration and structural strength.
