The Sovol-SV01 (Legacy) is an FDM 3D printer from Sovol 3D with a 220 x 220 x 250 mm build volume.

Specifications

Based on archived manufacturer specifications, engineering tests, and legacy community documentation, here are the verified technical specifications for the first-generation Sovol SV01 (Legacy) 3D printer:

  • Hotend: The original Sovol SV01 features a direct-drive extrusion system utilizing a Titan-style extruder clone with a 3:1 gear reduction ratio. The hotend can reach a maximum nozzle temperature of 250°C, suitable for printing PLA, PETG, TPU, and light ABS. The hotend is designed with a standard Creality/MK8 style heater block and a PTFE-lined heat break.

Calibration

The original Sovol SV01 (Legacy) is physically robust but requires careful manual calibration. Because it lacks automated sensors, you must apply precise mechanical alignment procedures to ensure print reliability. Follow this eight-step engineering cookbook:

  • Manual Z-Gantry Synchronization (Z-Align):
  • Procedure: Since the dual Z lead screws are driven by separate motors wired in parallel, they can fall out of sync when the motors are disabled.

Common defects

  • Hardware defects and mechanical weaknesses
  • PTFE-Lined Hotend Heat Creep Clogs: The SV01 Legacy uses a PTFE-lined hotend where the bowden guide tube runs down into the heater block and rests directly against the nozzle. Under high printing temperatures (above 235°C), the end of the PTFE tube begins to degrade, carbonize, and shrink. This creates a gap between the tube and the nozzle where molten plastic accumulates and solidifies, causing a severe clog.

What it is used for

Best use-cases:

  • TPU and Flexible Filament Printing: The geared Titan clone direct-drive extruder provides excellent control over soft, flexible materials. The short, constrained filament path makes the SV01 Legacy ideal for printing seals, gaskets, drone bumpers, and phone cases.
