Sintratec S2: Technical Overview
Technology and Laser Source
The Sintratec S2 uses Selective Laser Sintering (SLS), where a CO₂ laser scans a polymer powder bed and fuses it layer by layer. Galvanometric mirrors direct the beam for fast, precise scanning.
Modular All-Material Platform (AMP)
The S2's defining feature is its split architecture: the Fusion Module (FM), containing the laser, optics, and electronics, is physically separated from the Material Changing Unit (MCU), which contacts the powder. The Fusion Module is purchased once; MCUs are swapped per material or to enable parallel build workflows.

Sintratec S2: Calibration
1. Heating Zone Stabilisation
Before loading powder, run the heating cycle without the MCU for 30 minutes. The goal is for all 8 heating zones to reach a uniform temperature within ±2 °C. Expected result: stable platform temperature within the target range for the selected material (e.g., 160–175 °C for PA12).
2. Powder Level and Moisture Check
Verify the powder is dry (moisture <0.1%) before loading the MCU. Dry at 80 °C for 4–8 hours if in doubt.
Sintratec S2, Common Defects and Remediation
Warping
The most common SLS issue, parts curve after cooling, especially long flat profiles. Cause: uneven or too-rapid cooling, or poor part orientation. Fix: extend the cooling cycle; orient parts so the smallest cross-section faces the XY plane; ensure a uniform powder envelope around the part.
Orange Peel Surface
A rough, uneven surface resembling orange peel.
Sintratec S2: Use Cases
Suitable Applications
R&D and Universities: The modular architecture and entry price of ~€33,000 make the S2 a realistic choice for academic and research environments. SLS produces support-free, isotropic PA12 functional prototypes that speed up design iteration.
