Sintratec S1

The Sintratec S1 is an SLS 3D printer from Sintratec AG with a 130 x 130 x 180 mm build volume.

Specifications

Light Engine: Diode laser (non-standard for SLS); Sintratec does not publish exact power for S1, comparable to Kit (~3–5W).

Optics/Scanner: Galvanometer scanner; target laser spot enables minimum layer thickness of 100 µm.

Platform: 130×130×180 mm sintering platform; larger Z than the Kit for taller parts.

Chamber: Enclosed heated chamber ~185°C; air atmosphere (no nitrogen); suited for PA12 and TPU.

Build Volume: 130×130×180 mm; minimum layer 100 µm.

Software: Sintratec Central (proprietary slicer and machine management).

Materials: PA12, TPU; limited compatibility with non-standard powders.

Calibration

Warm-up: ≥20 min temperature stabilisation at set point before starting a job.

Laser scanner: Use calibration plate on module replacement; deviation ≤0.2 mm at corners.

Recoater: Sieve powder before use; visual check after each cleaning cycle.

Refresh rate: ≥50% virgin powder to maintain PA12 mechanical properties.

Common defects

Warping: Rapid cooling and air atmosphere → flat parts deform. Tilt 45° and use slow cooling cycle.

Orange-peel: Uneven powder layer → sieve powder and clean recoater regularly.

Porosity: Low laser energy density → reduced strength. Calibrate power profile for each specific powder.

Delamination: Layer thickness too high or thermal instability → limit to 100 µm/layer.

What it is used for

Functional prototypes (PA12/TPU): No support structures → complex geometries for rapid design verification.

Education: Office-safe real SLS process for university laboratories.

Small-batch flexible parts (TPU): Dampers, seals, and rubber components for low- to mid-volume production.
