Specifications

The Qidi Tech X-Smart 3 is a modern, high-speed desktop FDM 3D printer launched in 2023. Serving as a compact entry-level model in Qidi's high-speed lineup (which includes the larger X-Plus 3 and X-Max 3), the X-Smart 3 brings high-performance CoreXY motion mechanics and Klipper firmware control to the budget hobbyist market.

Hotend and Extruder

The printer features a lightweight direct-drive extrusion assembly with high-ratio dual-gear feeding. The maximum hotend temperature is rated at 280°C (though some firmware versions permit up to 300°C). The system utilizes Qidi's V2.5 hotend design, which integrates a ceramic cartridge heating ring for fast heat-up cycles.

Calibration

To maintain structural accuracy and surface finish when operating the Qidi Tech X-Smart 3 at high speeds, follow this calibration sequence:

  • Bed Thermal Soak Prior to Mesh Probing:

Before running the Mesh Bed Leveling routine, preheat the bed to your target printing temperature (e.g., 60°C for PLA or 90°C for ABS) and let the machine rest for 10 minutes.

  • Expected result: Prevents bed mesh measurement errors caused by thermal expansion of the aluminum bed plate.

Common defects

  • Hardware defects and mechanical weaknesses
  • Heat Creep Clogs on V2.5 Hotend: Early batches of the V2.5 hotend can suffer from hotend cooling fan inefficiency. When printing in a warm chamber with low volumetric flow (such as slow first layers), heat creeps up. The filament softens early and jams in the throat. Solution: Keep the enclosure open for low-temp filaments. Replace the hotend cooling fan with a high-flow model if necessary.

What it is used for

Recommended Applications

  • Fast Functional PLA and PETG Parts: Thanks to CoreXY mechanics, the printer prints parts in hours rather than days while maintaining high surface finish quality.
  • Small ABS and ASA Technical Components: The enclosed frame retains heat well, allowing warp-free printing of small-to-medium ABS/ASA parts.
