Technology

The Jet Fusion 5600 uses Multi Jet Fusion (MJF): 80 µm powder layers, agent heads (fusing + detailing + optional ESD agent), and IR/UV lamps for activation. The system retained the fundamental architecture but added three key differentiators over the 5200/5210 generation.

ESD Mode

For the first time in the MJF family, the 5600 enables printing of parts with controlled electrostatic resistance (10⁶–10⁹ Ω/sq) via a specialized ESD agent: a direct response to the needs of the electronics industry.

Process Development Package

HP's official tool for qualifying new powders is available exclusively on the 5600.

Calibration

Calibration of the HP Jet Fusion 5600

• Chamber thermal verification: check all eight heating zones; expected uniformity ±2 °C. When switching materials, wait for a full thermal cycle (≥ 90 min).
• ESD mode verification: for ESD builds, test the ESD agent head profile and verify distribution settings. Expected surface resistance: 10⁶–10⁹ Ω/sq.
• Agent head nozzle test: automated check; < 1% missing nozzles for production-grade accuracy.

Common Defects on the HP Jet Fusion 5600

Inconsistent ESD resistance

Symptom: Variations in surface resistance between parts from the same build. Cause: uneven ESD agent application or thermal variation. Fix: check ESD agent head; reorient parts; optimize refresh rate.

Warping of thin-walled parts

Symptom: Thin walls curl after cooling. Cause: residual thermal stresses. Fix: vertical orientation of thin walls; add powder nesting structures.

Surface delamination.
