The Hellbot Magna Dual is an FDM 3D printer from Hellbot with a 220 x 220 x 260 mm build volume.

Specifications

The Hellbot Magna Dual is a budget-friendly desktop Cartesian FDM 3D printer designed for hobbyists, educators, and makers who want to explore multi-color and multi-material 3D printing without the high financial investment required for professional-grade systems. The printer shares hardware similarities with models like the Geeetech A10M, using a similar dual-feed single-nozzle architecture.

  • Hotend: The printer features a 2-in-1-out single-nozzle hotend. Two independent Bowden extruders feed filament into a single heater block through a Y-splitter guide channel. This single-nozzle design eliminates the alignment calibrations required for dual-nozzle systems.

Calibration

Achieving high-quality dual-extrusion prints on the Hellbot Magna Dual requires mechanical adjustments and slicer optimization. Follow these ten calibration steps:

  • Extruder E-Steps Calibration:

Disconnect the Bowden tubes from the extruders. Cut the filament flush at the extruder outlet. Heat the hotend to 200°C. Feed 100 mm of filament via terminal or touchscreen commands. Measure the actual length of the extruded filament.

Common defects

  • Hardware defects and mechanical weaknesses
  • Y-Splitter Filament Jams (2-in-1-out system): The retracted filament tip can form a bulbous end. When the second filament is fed forward, it catches on this bulb or stringy hairs, leading to a complete hotend clog.
  • Symptoms: Extruder motor clicking, filament grinding, and complete stoppage of material flow during color changes.

What it is used for

Best Use-Cases:

  • Multi-Color Desktop Figures: Printing toys, decorative vases, logos, and custom display models in PLA.
  • Educational Demonstrations: Introducing students to multi-material FDM printing on a low-cost, open platform.
  • Functional Desktop Prototypes: Fabricating custom enclosures, mounts, and brackets in PETG.
